Araksa Tea Experience

Embark on an enchanting tea journey

Welcome to Araksa Tea Garden, nestled in the picturesque Mae Tang District of Chiang Mai. Situated on a verdant hillside, we specialize in producing premium Assam tea, named after India’s renowned tea-growing region.

The name “Araksa” translates to “Preserve” in Sanskrit, underscoring our commitment to environmental conservation and local culture. Our philosophy revolves around creating a sustainable ecosystem that supports both our business and the environment we cherish.  Quality at Araksa begins with environmental stewardship and social responsibility, values we uphold in every facet of our operations.

The tea garden covers 111 acres and consists of tea plants that range from 40 to 70 years old. The site is one of the oldest tea gardens in Thailand. In 1941, the tea garden began planting approximately 50 acres of Assam tea plants. The garden was then sold and left untouched for over 15 years. Left undisturbed for many years, the tea plants have not been exposed to chemical pesticides or fertilizers. Today, they are producing some of the best organic tea in Thailand.

Immerse yourself in the serene beauty of our lush tea gardens and embark on a journey through the art of tea cultivation from its very roots. Engage hands-on with our resident tea pluckers as they guide you through the delicate process of harvesting tea leaves. Witness the time-honored methods of tea processing firsthand and deepen your tea knowledge with immersive workshops exploring the intricate art of blending and tasting.

Our Commitment

Our garden is located in a designated agricultural area, which we do not encroach beyond our boundaries. We believe our responsibility is not only to protect the environment around us, but to help improve upon it.

Our entire garden is USDA and EU Certified. Our tea is grown, harvested and processed in the most sustainable way. We do not use chemicals or harmful toxins; we have created natural buffer zones to prevent contamination from the air and soil and we continue to pluck by hand rather than using machines in order to use clean energy.”

Testimonials

The tour of the Araksa Tea Plantation is fascinating, showing you when and how to pick tea-leaves, how the leaves are made into tea and how different types of tea are made. We were there at the weekend so, unfortunately, we could not see the factory in operation but some demonstrations of the process by hand. There is good restaurant and gift shop on site. Make sure you use insect repellant before going into the field to pick tea leaves.

Araksa Tea Garden

This was a great tour and very well organised by Absolutely Fantastic Tours Chiang Mai. First we picked tea leaves and found out some of the history of the plantation. We were then taught how they hand roast green tea. We were shown around the factory where other teas are processed. We then got to taste green tea. Both iced and hot. It was delicious. We then had one of the best meals we have had in Thailand it included salad and lightly battered tea leaves, chicken breast, curry, soup and rice. Every dish was a winner. The host was very knowledgeable and funny. Special mention must go to the tea expert who roasts the leaves. She does this purely on instinct. A great day enjoyed by all.
